CBC Sports is looking for a Producer to be assigned as Executive Producer for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Reporting to the Head of Sports Programming, the successful candidate will guide and manage the hosts, on-air talent and the programming team. She or he will lead the editorial direction of the program, looking to expand its range and impact, while maintaining its excellence.

 

The Executive Producer is instrumental in assigning stories to be chased, monitoring development and creating a coverage plan for the Games. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor and direct producers, on-air talent and the hosts. He or she must have the ability to identify and develop programming talent. The Executive Producer has responsibilities for the resources of the production unit and is expected to contribute to the planning function of the games. The successful candidate is expected to take an active role in department-wide and CBC initiatives.


 

Job Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with the following profile:

 

* University degree or equivalent and five years' experience of which three must nvolve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry 

* Significant experience producing live international multi-sports event programming 

* Experience writing, editing, and conceptualizing the content and flow of distinctive programming 

* Experience in sports journalism is desirable. The successful candidate must demonstrate solid editorial knowledge of national and international sports news and issues. 

* Extensive knowledge of international professional and amateur sports (special emphasis on Winter Sports and Hockey) 

* Proven ability and experience working with a sales/revenue department developing programming to meet client's needs, programming objectives, and financial goals 

* Experience meeting and presenting programming concepts to clients, sponsors and agencies 

* Strong leadership skills to motivate a programming team, on-air talent and host 

* Open to new ideas and approaches 

* Ability to forward plan while remaining topical and current 

* Highly developed interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively and cooperatively.

* The ideal .successful candidate will have established relationships with the Canadian Sports Federations 

* A proven understanding of the CBC, the relationship between Sports, the network and regional programming 

* An understanding and appreciation of complex production and technical needs 

* An understanding and appreciation of the role of digital media in programming 

* Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure and stressful environment 

* Ability to travel as required and to work long and flexible hours
