The Path 2 Work program helps persons with developmental disabilities prepare for paid employment. The program offers a portfolio of targeted and integrated services, including client needs assessment, employment planning, pre-employment readiness workshops, life skills training, family meetings, work experience placement, accommodation analysis, job development and job coaching. 
Workforce Specialist/Job Coach, Path 2 Work
Half-time (17.5 hrs./wk.)/ Temporary/ One-year position starting ASAP/ Dufferin & Lawrence
The individual in this position:
  • Markets the program to employers; educates the employer regarding abilities, needs and interests of the client; conducts tours of work places and attends interviews with participants
  • Develops and secures suitable work experience both paid and unpaid placement opportunities for individuals
  • Assesses the needs of a client in a specific work environment; determines the need for job site modifications and makes recommendations for strategies and changes
  • Carries out job development using JVS’ consultative sales model, including prospecting (cold-calling), networking, employer need analysis, features/benefits and other EOPII job development and sales techniques
  • Provides job retention and job coaching support to clients and occasionally provides life skills supports such as travel training
  • Contributes to the cross-JVS Toronto team of those engaged in job development for other client groups and employer relations
  • Attends and facilitates workshops to build relationships with clients and assist with their job readiness and skill development as required
  • Provides support to develop resume, interview and basic job search skills
  • Provides coaching support to participants as well as to employers in the work site
  • Develops and updates Individual Support Plans for clients who are ready for employment in the community; understands and complies with Quality Assurance Measures in accordance with new Developmental Services legislation
  • Provides follow up and job maintenance for individuals in employment
  • Prepares and maintains files, statistics, reports and all documentation required to meet service standards

Job Requirements

We are seeking a graduate of a community college or other similar recognized post-secondary institution in a related field with a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience. You will be computer-literate, have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, have current knowledge of labour market trends, employment-related issues and adult learning approaches, and must be able to deal effectively with persons with disabilities, community professionals and employers. A valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle would be an asset. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this position.
